Bert Foster Campaign
When the call went out to Bow Valley College staff and faculty to support our annual Bert Foster campaign, our community answered! The 2020 holiday campaign raised over $8000 to support 51 Bow Valley College learners thanks to the generosity of our staff and faculty.
Beginning in 1977 with one employee – Bert Foster – fundraising off the side of his desk with a coffee tin, this grassroots campaign has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in funds for Bow Valley College learners experiencing financial difficulties during the December holidays, and is run entirely by the volunteer efforts of our employees. This year we raised over $8000 (in a socially distant way!) to support our learners. Our employees donated their time, silent auction items, and monetary donations to a very worthy cause.
The holiday season can be a challenging time of year for everyone, and our learners are no exception. With the added stressor of the COVID-19 pandemic, many are faced with additional financial uncertainties this year. The generous contributions of our Bow Valley College family made a real impact on the lives of our students over the holiday season, allowing them to purchase much needed groceries, or put an extra gift under the tree for their families. “Each member of the Bert Foster Fund Committee feels that this grassroots campaign is a great way for Bow Valley College employees to demonstrate support for students who need a little extra help during the Christmas holidays,” Travis Seaman, Campaign Chair for the Bert Foster campaign notes. “We know that students not only welcome the financial help, they also appreciate that someone at the College is looking out for them. Fostering this connection between employees and students over the years is very rewarding work.”
Our staff and faculty show a commitment every day to student success, and the generosity shown during the Bert Foster campaign is no exception.
