Bow Valley College donors recognized at annual Celebrating Student Futures event

On Wednesday, May 30, and Thursday, May 31, Bow Valley College is honouring the generosity of donors who make a significant impact on the lives of learners at the Celebrating Student Futures event on campus. During the event, more than 170 students will receive awards worth a cumulative total of nearly $250,000. These awards facilitate access to education and help our learners to realize their full potential.

This year, we will present the inaugural Sharon Carry Leadership Award, which was established in 2017 to honour the extraordinary leadership of long-time Bow Valley College President and CEO, Sharon Carry. Nominees are selected on the basis of their support for the College, their leadership, and their impact on education and the community.

The Sharon Carry Leadership Award for 2018 will be presented to Esmail Bharwani on May 31. To help students overcome financial barriers, Esmail has created over 40 awards between Bow Valley College, Mount Royal University, SAIT, and the University of Calgary. According to Esmail, “You can change people’s lives by giving them an education.”

Student award recipient Brittany Touchette agrees. “I am incredibly honoured and grateful that I was chosen to receive this financial aid,” she says. “I have put a lot of effort into my studies and it’s a truly wonderful feeling to be recognized for it..”
