Canada Day Powwow celebrates Indigenous culture

Bow Valley College and the Iniikokaan Centre, together with the City of Calgary, are proud to host the sixth annual Indigenous showcase and traditional Powwow for Canada Day at Prince’s Island Park.

This cultural celebration attracts more than 80,000 people annually, educating and engaging Calgarians and visitors alike with Indigenous cultural activities. It showcases a wide range of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples’ ways of knowing and activities. Through working with Treaty 7 First Nations, the Powwow demonstrates Bow Valley College’s commitment to Indigenous practices, community involvement, and strengthening relationships, and to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Actions.

Activities begin on the main stage at 11 a.m. with a Blessing from Bow Valley College’s Cultural Resource Elder Keith Chief Moon. Guests will enjoy traditional hoop, intertribal, and round dance performances; as well as music by Maskwa Lightning and Status Savage. There will be arts and crafts, language teachings, and an artisanal market until 5 p.m.

Please come join us at Prince’s Island Park on Canada Day to experience the Iniikokaan Powwow. We look forward to seeing you there.
