Frequently Asked Questions

No, counselling is confidential. What you discuss during sessions is between you and your counsellor. It can't be shared without your permission. But there are some exceptions to this. Your counsellor will talk to you about these in your first meeting.

No! Students use counselling for many different reasons. It's about solving problems and making things better in your life.

People often see a counsellor when they feel sad, angry, lonely, stressed, or scared.

Counsellors are here to talk about anything you need help with. This may include personal issues or concerns like:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • abuse
  • addiction
  • academic and career goals
  • couple and family problems
  • financial issues
  • personal growth and development
  • problems with peers

Being in crisis means you do not feel that you can wait until the next day to talk to someone. If you're in crisis, come in to Learner Success Services right away. We will do our best to see you as soon as possible.

All registered students at Bow Valley College are able to see a counsellor.

Counselling is free of charge for Bow Valley students.
Counselling is in Learner Success Services. You'll find us on the main floor of the downtown south campus.
