Bow Valley College hosted its first virtual Pride Week in February 2021

Pride Week, a collective celebration of LGBTQ2S+ individuals and communities at Bow Valley College and is a collaborative effort by Learner Success Services, SABVC, students, and employees from diverse Schools, was held February 22 to 26.

For its first virtual Pride Week, Bow Valley College hosted and participated in various virtual events open to all faculty, staff, and students, and created original content to help educate the College about LGBTQ2S+ issues. Here are some highlights.

Jaigris Hodson

There is strength in your vulnerability. Jaigris will walk you through her journey of queer self-discovery while offering ideas for how a community like Bow Valley College can bring out the best in one another. Exploring how modern superhero stories don't serve us, this talk will explore how real strength is found in communities coming together to care for one another. In a time of great upheaval, Jaigris will show us how we can work together to find ways through as our willingness to work together becomes our gift to the world: We are most strong together when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable with each other.

"Get Ready with Me" with Nada Nuff

Go behind the scenes with one of Calgary's premier drag queens, Nada Nuff. Watch as she shows you some tips and tricks about getting ready for shows while taking you through her journey to drag and what performing has brought to her life. This interactive event will give you an up-close and personal peek into Calgary's world of drag.

Woman Dress

Pre-contact, a Two Spirit person named Woman Dress travels the Plains, gathering and sharing stories. Featuring archival images and dramatized re-enactments, this film shares a Cuthand family oral story, honouring and respecting Woman Dress without imposing colonial binaries on them.

Reviving the Roost

Reviving the Roost is filmmaker and bestselling author Vivek Shraya's ode to a popular Edmonton gay bar closed in 2007. With pulsating neon-light animation, Reviving the Roost is a story about community complexity and longing, and an elegy to a lost space.
