Program FAQs

No.  This program is open to Permanent Residents or Convention Refugees only.

With the online schedule, you can maintain work and family commitments outside of your studies. You need to be available for a one hour webinar once a week on Monday (Reading) or Wednesday (Writing) evening. Otherwise, when you study is up to you.

You can apply for the course and schedule that fits your needs. Because these courses are single-strand (only reading or only writing), the courses are a good fit for students who have different benchmarks in reading and writing.  For example, if you have a benchmark 8 for reading but 6 for writing, you can take Writing 7 only.

If it has been more than 9 months since you last studied with us you will be required to go through the application process.  You can apply at https://bowvalleycollege.ca/applying/ell-applying

If you are new to online learning and working with D2L we recommend you visit this page: https://bowvalleycollege.ca/student-resources/technology-services/d2l-brightspace/getting-started.  Once you begin your course, there will be orientation activities and instructor support to help you get started.

Yes, webinar attendance is a requirement for this course.  The webinars are once each week, for one hour. Other attendance requirements will be discussed in the first week of the course.

Coursework is approximately 5 hours of independent work each week, which includes course lessons and activities and assessments.
