Bow Valley College Expands Secure Bike Storage for Staff & Students

Additional secure bike storage will be available for employees and students on April 24.

We are proud to be a member of the downtown and East Village communities. Our Calgary campus is located a few blocks away from the confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers, accessible via public transit, and close to North America’s largest urban bicycle path network.

We are pleased to announce additional secure bike storage will be available for Bow Valley College employees and students on April 24. We have two bike rooms located in the South Campus parkade, and recently opened a bike cage outside North Campus at 6th Avenue and 3rd Street SE.

To access the secure areas, cyclists are required to complete a waiver and follow rules associated with the bike cages. Students are asked to provide a $30 deposit which is reimbursed when their access card is returned at the end of their studies. Staff and students that already have access to the South Campus parkade will automatically gain access to the new North Campus bike cage.

Students, please contact the Students Association at Bow Valley College (SABVC) on the second floor of South Campus for access. Employees are encouraged to check out College Connect or contact Campus Services.

Whether you are new to cycling or have been a commuter cyclist for years, we encourage you to join the bike community at Bow Valley College. Throughout the year, employees organize events such as lunchtime rides, speakers, and a free bike tune up every spring in celebration of Bike-to-Work Day. All employees are also invited to join the “Bike Buddies” team through Microsoft Teams.

Mark your calendars for May 5, as employees will be back offering their tune-up skills for all employees and students.

“I’m really happy to see Bow Valley College making secure bike parking available to students. It is inherently difficult to secure bicycles and their accessories in the absence of such an amenity, so bravo to the College for seeing the need and bringing down a prominent barrier to urban bicycle commuting” - Brett Bergie (Director of Government Relations)

“I cannot think of better bookends than beginning and ending my day with cycle commuting. My workdays are healthier, more beautiful, and adventurous when I ride. I am excited for the bike cages at the front of the College to amplify the profile of the bike community here at the College.” - Ryan Webber (Learning Design Consultant)
