Bow Valley College Students Celebrate Convocation Virtually
It has been an unprecedented few months for both students and employees at Bow Valley College, but the spring semester ended with a celebratory first-time initiative: a virtual convocation.
While graduates couldn’t walk across a stage this year, the College celebrated their accomplishments with online tributes to the 1,221 graduates of the School of Creative Technologies, Chiu School of Business, School of Community Studies, and the School of Health and Wellness. We had more than 6,000 visits to our convocation webpage from 31 different countries. Graduates participated in the celebration by sharing their photos on social media as they watched the virtual ceremonies, or of their “grad in a box” packages, which included their official parchments, a grad cap, and even confetti.
On June 26, Vice-President, Academic, Dr. Misheck Mwaba, also visited three valedictorians outside their homes or workplaces to congratulate them in person (from a safe distance). Dr. Mwaba presented the graduates with their parchments and wished them the best of success in their new careers. The valedictorians were selected not only for their academic success but for their leadership and for supporting others to reach their goals.
The College extends its congratulations to all students and graduates on their hard work during this challenging time. By completing their courses and programs, they demonstrated the College’s values of resilience, creativity, respect, teamwork, and inclusion.
We would also like to recognize staff and faculty for all their efforts. Through their creativity, resilience, and teamwork, they quickly adapted courses to an online environment, and supported students to complete their studies amid unprecedented challenges. We have continued to provide the education and support that our students need. Now, each day, we have 9,500 students taking 1,500 of our classes online, taught by 600 dedicated instructors.
The College is proud of its graduates and wishes them the best of success in their new careers. We can’t wait to see what they achieve next.
