President Gunter Influencing Alberta's Skills for Jobs Task Force
President and CEO, Ms. Gunter, will represent Bow Valley College on a newly created Alberta government Skills for Jobs Task Force to help strengthen job readiness and expand hands-on education opportunities. Minister of Advanced Education, Demetrios Nicolaides, recently visited Bow Valley College and was impressed with the innovation and evolution of the College which strengthens educational offerings in Alberta. Each program offered at Bow Valley College emphasizes workplace experiences which create crucial insights into student success in the emerging job market.
Bow Valley College offers applied education opportunities for students to get the right competencies and skills for job-readiness. This is a key opportunity for Ms. Gunter to shape the direction of the Skills for Jobs Task Force agenda based on her expertise and belief that increasing practical opportunities in diverse programs will connect more Albertans to jobs. This direction provides enhanced competencies which are attractive to employers. Ms. Gunter’s leadership philosophy empowers staff and faculty to constantly challenge the status quo in multifaceted ways and create the transformation needed to position Bow Valley College and, in turn, Alberta for success. She will be working along with 18 other task force members to make recommendations to the government on increasing awareness of the viability and value of practicum-based programs.
Ms. Gunter will bring credible knowledge into the task force that support Alberta’s economy and employment opportunities. The group will submit a preliminary report in early 2020 and a full public report will follow.
