What do student ambassadors do?
Student ambassadors work with Marketing and Recruitment to engage current and future students in events and communications and share the Bow Valley College student experience. As a student ambassador, you will represent Bow Valley College, both in person and online, and participate in one-on-one activities, including:
- Representing Bow Valley College on an online chat platform. Chat with potential students through an online chat platform and answer questions about the college. This includes programs, courses, services, and what it's like to be a student. Ambassadors keep the conversation friendly by asking questions and staying interested. You are expected to check your account regularly every week to reply to messages in a timely manner.
- Participating in virtual and in-person information sessions. Join sessions online and in person to share your experiences as a Bow Valley College student. You will be speaking in front of virtual and in-person audiences on and off campus.
- On-campus event support. Help the event coordinator with tasks such as moving materials around campus, setting up or taking down event materials, greeting and checking in attendees, and providing general college information. This includes events such as Open House, Counsellor Update, Community and Agency Update, Pathways to Career Fair, and more!
- Guided campus tours. Show the college campus to future students one-on-one or in groups. You will need to know about different areas, the campus layout, general facts about the college, and be able to speak confidently in English to groups. It is important to have the ability to manage schedules and stick to timelines.
- Create and/or participate in social media and content creation. Create and share content that provides insight into your college experience through chats, blogs, videos, and social media posts. You might talk about studying, exams, assignments, clubs and societies, preparing for class, money management, and what it's like on campus.
- Data entry. Enter student data (for example, name, contact details, academic history, and interests) into the recruitment Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database.
We need student ambassadors to commit to a minimum of two hours each week for at least one term, which may be extended to multiple terms.
Ambassadors will spend an average of 1-2 hours per week responding to questions, participating in events, and creating social media content. Successful candidates must attend training with Student Engagement in the Student Services department, regularly check in with the Welcome Centre Specialist to discuss completed tasks, and participate in all student ambassador meetings. Ambassadors receive an honorarium of $300 per term.
